Michael Kors, born Karl Anderson Jr. on August 9, 1959, in Long Island, New York, is a renowned American fashion designer celebrated for his sophisticated, jet-set-inspired aesthetic. He is the founder and Chief Creative Officer of his eponymous brand, Michael Kors, which encompasses a wide range of products including men's and women's ready-to-wear, accessories, watches, jewelry, footwear, and fragrances.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Kors displayed an early interest in fashion, reportedly redesigning his mother's wedding dress at the age of five. After a brief stint at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, he left to work at Lothar's boutique, where his talent caught the attention of fashion insiders. In 1981, he launched his own women's label, which quickly gained popularity among high-end retailers.

Professional Milestones

From 1997 to 2003, Kors served as the first women's ready-to-wear designer for the French fashion house Céline, revitalizing the brand with his modern designs. He later focused on expanding his own brand, introducing menswear in 2002. In 2011, Michael Kors Holdings Limited went public, and in 2019, it was renamed Capri Holdings Limited, encompassing brands like Versace and Jimmy Choo.

Media Presence and Philanthropy

Kors gained widespread recognition as a judge on the reality TV show "Project Runway," where his candid critiques endeared him to audiences. Beyond fashion, he is known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in combating hunger, serving as a Global Ambassador Against Hunger for the United Nations World Food Programme.

Personal Life

In 2011, Kors married his long-time partner, Lance Le Pere, in a private ceremony in The Hamptons. The couple resides in New York City, where Kors continues to influence the fashion industry with his timeless designs.
